SVP Webinar - climate emergency: a green and fair COVID recovery

On Thursday, July 30th our first Climate Emergency webinar explored how the UK can plot a recovery path from COVID-19 that is both green and fair. We aim to develop this as a series if there is appetite to do so. From what we can see, the motivation in the public sector and amongst businesses to tackle the effects of climate change is undiminished, but COVID-19 has thrown up not just new challenges but the opportunity to think afresh about the world we want to see. The TOMs social value measurement framework is designed as a practical tool and we are interested in what can make a real positive difference to society and the environment.

We invited three green innovators – Sonya Bedford from the Bristol City Council to talk about its ambitious energy programme City Leap, Chris Hayes sustainability operations director for the SCS joint venture building the London end of HS2, and Charlotte Eddington, Investment Director at Abundance, one of the UK’s leading green and social investment fund managers, to talk about their green bonds programme for local authorities. We will also hear from Agnese Mizia, SVP’s Head of Research and Innovation, about our new Recover & Renew consultation platform and how we aim to develop the TOMs social value measurement framework to support a green and fair recovery. Nathan Goode, SVP’s Head of Strategy, concluded the session by chairing a discussion about what is needed to make this vision a reality.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. You can view a recording of the full webinar, as well as download the presentation slides, below.
